Vienna Airport Transfer
Modernization of the S-Bahn Main Line (2026–2027)
The Vienna S-Bahn main line will undergo extensive modernization through the end of 2027. This will result in extended closures on the main S-Bahn route between Floridsdorf, Praterstern, and the Central Station. During the construction work, Wiener Linien and ÖBB will implement a comprehensive plan for replacement and additional services to ensure that Vienna remains easily accessible by public transportation.
From July 4 to September 6, 2026, the line between Floridsdorf and Praterstern will be closed. Replacement buses and alternative connections will be available. This will be followed by the main closure from August 14, 2026, to the end of October 2027 between Praterstern and Hauptbahnhof. During this period, subway, tram, and bus lines will be reinforced to best replace the suspended S-Bahn connections. Travel on the CAT is also not possible due to the modernization work. However, while the modernization work is underway, CAT will provide a replacement service using comfortable premium buses between Vienna Airport and the Wien Mitte/Landstraße station. With up to five buses per hour in each direction, this service offers a particularly fast and direct connection between the airport and downtown Vienna. The Wien Mitte/Landstraße station also provides connections to subway lines U3 and U4.
Visitors should allow a little extra time for trips within Vienna and check their route in advance. Current connections and information are available via the WienMobil app and the ÖBB timetable service.

ÖBB Railjet - 1st class without surcharge on the Railjet
From Vienna International Airport, there are direct connections twice an hour via the Railjet and Intercity trains operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Vienna Central Station can be reached nonstop in about 15 minutes and offers a direct connection to the U1 subway line. Vienna Meidling Station can be reached in just under 30 minutes without changing trains and provides a connection to the U6 subway line.

Express train S7
The S7 airport express train currently runs from the airport on a shortened route to the St. Marx station, which is located outside the city center. There, passengers can transfer to tram line 18 toward the main train station and tram line 71 toward the city center or Karlsplatz.
Alternatively, you can continue your journey by taking bus 74A to the Landstraße stop. There, you can transfer to subway lines U3 and U4. The nearest U3 subway station is also about a 10-minute walk from the St. Marx stop.
