"SOMMER AN!" – Under this motto, the Donauinselfest invites you to an unforgettable weekend again in 2026. From July 3rd to 5th, Vienna's Donauinsel will once again be a meeting place for music fans, families, culture enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys a colorful get-together. Perhaps you'll be there this year, too?

What makes the Donauinselfest so special?
Every year, between two and three million people come to the island. At its busiest, there are around 250,000 visitors at the same time – an impressive display of good cheer, music, and a true festival atmosphere.
And the best part: You don't need a ticket. After a brief security check, you can simply enter the grounds and enjoy the diverse program. If you want to see specific acts, it's best to arrive at the stage early – if it's very crowded, access may be temporarily closed.

What to expect at the Donauinselfest 2026
The festival grounds stretch approximately 4.5 kilometers between the Nordbrücke and the Reichsbrücke. Along this stretch, you'll find 14 stages and a host of other activities – from interactive stations and culinary delights to information and experience booths.
In 2026, there will be a special focus on inclusion. The festival aims to be for everyone – regardless of age or disability. There will be shuttle and escort services, parts of the main stage program will be interpreted into sign language, and there are five quiet zones if you need a break from the hustle and bustle.
The Program – Highlights 2026

The program is officially unveiled each year at a press conference held a few weeks before the Danube Island Festival. This year, too, you can look forward to a diverse lineup with something for every taste—from pop and rock to Schlager, cabaret, and other genres.
In addition to the musical offerings, the Danube Island Festival once again impresses with an extensive supporting program. Visitors can look forward to numerous activities, including fitness and sports activities, face painting for children, and creative stations for painting, crafting, and making things. In addition, a recruiting fair will be held again, where companies can present themselves to potential applicants and showcase exciting career opportunities.
You can find the full program here.

Going to the Donauinselfest with children?
Absolutely! There are dedicated areas with games, fun, and creative activities – for example, at the Okidoki Kinderfreunde stage. In addition to puppet shows, clown and magic shows, and children's songs, there are also many interactive games.
For families, a visit is recommended, especially from midday until late afternoon. It gets louder and busier in the evening. Strollers are generally permitted, but a baby sling or an all-terrain buggy is often more practical.
Please also remember the bag policy: Anything larger than an A3 size is not permitted. Water is only permitted in 0.5-liter bottles (except for medical reasons). And very important: Give your child a contact wristband with your name and phone number on it – just in case.

How to get there
The most convenient way to get there is by public transport:
• U1 – Donauinsel station
• U6 – Handelskai or Neue Donau
• Tram 30, 31, or 33 – Floridsdorfer Brücke
If you're arriving by train: From the main station, the U1 takes you directly to the Donauinsel. From Westbahnhof or Meidling, take the U6.
Cycling is also a good option – there are guarded bike garages right next to the festival grounds. Arriving by car, however, is not recommended – use Park & Ride instead.
Check out the site and program map in advance. The paths on the island are longer than you might think – and during the festival, you'll only be able to get around on foot.Die bequemste Art anzureisen ist mit den Öffis:

A brief look back: The history of the Donauinselfest
The Donauinselfest has been held every year since 1984 – organized by the SPÖ Vienna, supported by countless Viennese businesses. What began as a small spring festival has developed into one of the largest open-air events in Europe.
Unforgettable performances include Falco in 1993, who completed his concert despite a thunderstorm, and the Kelly Family in 1995, which attracted 250,000 people. And even during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 and 2021, the Donauinselfest found creative ways to bring culture to the city – including mobile stage buses.
Since 2022, the festival has been back in full force – and three days full of music, diversity, and genuine encounters await you in 2025.
Whether you're coming for the first time or already bring back many memories – the Donauinselfest 2026 will once again be a festival for everyone. So, mark your weekend, pack sunscreen and a good mood – and join the celebration!
